We love yoga! Yoga makes us feel good! It helps us get in touch with our bodies, strengthens our core and improves our body posture. We look forward to the gratification that follows every time finished practice . Even more importantly, yoga is our favourite way to cleanse our minds and release the stress that has accumulated in our bodies. “Katharsis” is the word the ancient Greeks would use had they ever done a yoga practice. [Periklis here advises me that yoga was actually ‘invented’ by the Greeks, something proven by the fact that the word has a Greek root 🙂 Yeah, right, savashana…]

How does yoga fit the Live-Bio concept?

At Live-Bio yoga is a core activity that fits in with our lifestyle concept. It combines well with our love for nature and the healthy food we cook. We enjoy practicing it while living on our Aegean hillside, surrounded by decade-old olive trees, hence we believe it is a perfect destination for yoga retreats in Greece.

The best time for yoga is first thing in the morning while watching the sun go up gloriously above the horizon, or in the evening when we can enjoy the tranquillity of the landscape. We are not professionals nor purists, so we enjoy combining various yoga styles, Hatha, Vinyasa and Ashtanga being our favourite ones. We would like to invite our guests to join us in the yoga practice, share their experiences, show us their favourite postures, breathe in the fresh air Live-Bio is blessed with and breathe out all the stress they might feel.

How did yoga become part of my life?

My personal adventure with yoga started not that many years ago. I was living in Johannesburg, South Africa, and I was going through big changes in my personal life. My job was also giving me a lot of challenges, making me feel stressed about my future. In the past, when someone tried to convince me to join them in a yoga class, I always said: “no, it is not for me, I’m a cardio person, I need more intense form of exercise”. Eventually I got convinced, not by anybody else but myself. I thought I should be open minded and give it a try. Now I cannot imagine my life without yoga! My body became stronger, more toned and healthier. A practice of Hatha or Vinyasa became my favourite way to release tension and stress of everyday life. More recently, about 2 years ago, it was Periklis that challenged me to a Bikram yoga class. I was extremely hesitant. I had heard Bikram was unbearable, with people fainting in rooms heated up to over 40 degrees Celsius . But then, I had to show this new boyfriend of mine that I’m strong! I can handle anything, even sweating to death and possibly losing consciousness! I did it. I survived those 90 minutes of what then seemed the first time like hell, but oh boy, did I feel a complete detox and relaxation afterwards.  What an amazing feeling! I became addicted to it in the end.

How does yoga fit my current and future life?

I think a lot of you will agree that “once a yogi, always a yogi”. Yoga will always be in my life, be it at Live-Bio, surrounded by the peacefulness of our natural environment, or while travelling. I also want to attend yoga retreats in Greece to learn even more and try to convince yoga teachers to try Live-Bio as their next yoga retreats destination.

My favourite is yoga on the beach, the breathing exercises become so much more powerful while you inhale the fresh sea scented air. The pictures in the post are actually from our recent travels to Puerto Escondido on the Pacific coast of Mexico, a paradise for beach yoga!

Of course I feel incredibly blessed to be able to practice yoga out in the open, but for all of you that live in the city, try to find time and join a yoga studio close to you. Find a style that works for you and your body and keep practicing! I guarantee your physical and mental health will improve!

Like I mentioned before, we would like our guests to join us in our yoga practices. Let’s share our experiences, learn from each other, feel good together. We will be inviting yoga teachers from various locations in Greece as well as from around the world to organise yoga retreats in Greece, here at Live-Bio. We believe the environment is just perfect! There will be a specially designed area on the property where a group of 15 people can easily fit. Imagine doing your sun salutations looking at the Aegean sea, breathing in this magically fresh air and enjoying the serene silence of the surrounding environment. And after that let’s have a freshly squeezed juice and a healthy salad made from the veggies from our garden 🙂 .
